I Love You

One day I found such a beautiful girl. I
Think she’s come from another world. She’s
Giving me kisses like balloons on a string. She’s a
Pouncing tiger on a coily spring.

She came to say, “I love you.”
My heart and soul say, “I love you.”
“I love you. I want you to know that I
Love you.”

Ah-ah-ah ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah ah-ah-ah

She appears in a plastic bubble like some future submarine. She
Feels no trepidation gettin’ under my
Skin or even making a scene.

It seems to me she could be an angel. I see no
Wings, but she’s lighter than air. Some
Say she’s a little crazy, but what they
Mind — it’s just they wouldn’t dare.

She came to say, “I love you.”
My heart and soul say, “I love you.”
“I love you. I want you to know that I
Love you.”

Play the game that we call life, and I will
Dance right through it everyday – maybe
All the time.
Time, time, time!!

When she’s not here, I look inside.
I’ve got a home for all this pride.
Take it everywhere.
Yeah, yeah, yeah!!

“I love you.”
My heart and soul say, “I love you.”
“I love you. I want you to know that I
Love you.”

She came to say, “I love you.”
My heart and soul say, “I love you.”
“I love you. I want you to know that I
Love you.”

“This song was with me for years before I recorded it for Gratitude World. It really is about a girl who said ‘I love you.’ What you don’t know is that she didn’t want a sexual relationship. This was all very confusing for me at the time, but somehow I didn’t get tired of hearing ‘I love you.’ My frustrating experience had surprising, beneficial side-effects. Even though I wasn’t getting the full experience that I wanted, being appreciated made a difference to my self-esteem when I really needed a boost. I hope everyone has cheerleaders in life. This one helped to shift my world view, and for that I’m most grateful.”
