You And I

There’s something I crave more than ice cream at midnight,
Something that warms me more than the sun.
There’s somebody out there who knows what I’m thinking,
Someone who knows where I’m coming from.

They say it’s a life of solitude I seek.
They say my glass is half empty.
They say I’m never gonna fill this space as I’m
Drawing an outline of your face... deep in my mind.

Ooooh...
You and I, we’re meant to find each other.
You and I, we're meant to love one another.

What people say
I let it worry me too much.
I gotta wonder “What’s the fuss?”
So many times I’ve looked right through you.

You’ve compromised,
You’ve opened wide,
So many ways I’ve let you die,
And I was scratching at the surface.

Ooooh...
You and I, we’re meant to find each other.
You and I, we're meant to love one another.

Ooooh...
You and I, we’re meant to find each other.
You and I, we're meant to love one another.

You and I, we’re meant to find each other.
You and I, we're meant to love one another.

“This song is a prayer and dedication to finding a partner. I wrote it to help me get through the rough patches.

Every musician on this record contributed amazing feel and power. Moises Padilla is a drummer in touch with his emotions. Jeff Eason keeps it subtle and sweet on the fretless bass. Jason Goesll gives the song a luxurious, chimey refrain on electric guitar. Of course, the recording is made by the soul-satisfying strings arranged by Daniel J. Miller and performed by Chara Hokama, Melanie Wong, Meagan Peeples, and Leanne Riddle.

At one point, producer Peter Fosso suggested replacing the acoustic guitar with piano, which I opted out of partly to avoid requiring another studio session. I’m sure it would have worked great. I think there’s a lot of flexibility with this song, and I enjoy the acoustic guitar. Peter left a lot to me, which was a blessing in itself. He allowed the song’s natural strength to shine. Luckily, he also likes the current arrangement.”
